Severed: Chapter 1November 2010

Downtown Greenvale was little more than a collection of slums. The streets were stained and caked with grime, filth lined the gutters, and the alleys stank of poverty. Though there was no real system of gangs, violence was commonplace when the homeless population fought for every scrap.

On this night in late November, it was raining heavily. Dark clouds hid the stars and moon from view, and thunder rumbled overhead.

A ragged, mangy-looking bear glanced at the dark sky and scowled. He was a mugger, having the best success at night, but no idiot would be out in weather like this. And the homeless ones with no shelter never had

I almost picked "Black Rose / Green Sun" but this one is just so pretty. When I started out reading the comic, I really didn't like Vriska, because damn it, it seemed like every time she did anything, she managed to make things worse, usually on purpose. But then, once she established herself as John's patron troll and started being helpful for once (except when she wasn't, old habits die hard I suppose), she somehow clawed her way into a special place in my heart. Then came this part of the comic and I sort of threw up my hands and said, "All right. Fine. Don't know how you did it, Vriska, but I love you now."

I tried to illustrate this panel: [link] where, after Vriska leads him through the dream bubble, John finally remembers how he died. Poor Vriska, I guess the answer's no.
